New Mercies

Have you wished even once this week that this world and your heart were not so broken?
Have you longed for what could be, what should be?

I know I have.
I've wrestled and struggled with difficult news, and disobedient children. I've struggled with feeling frustrated and discouraged and downright overwhelmed. I've definitely longed for a break or a win.

I don't know what you might be facing.
A shattered dream?
A broken relationship?
Health issues?
Financial strain?

Resurrection Sunday came and went and now here you are - back in the thick of real life.

And the thick of it is hard and painful and often, hopeless.

Wesley had it right in The Princess Bride:

But, in the beginning, it wasn't like this.

God walked with man.
Everything was just as it should be.

BUT WE FELL.

From glory and into darkness.

And so, we grope around in our darkened hearts and minds and we forget that "in the beginning the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us" and He lived and died and rose again so that we might have light and life.

We forget that He called out into the darkness of a tomb, and called out a man who had been dead for 4 days.
We forget that He took a little girl's hand and reached down into death, and summoned her back to life.

We forget that He Himself defeated death.

"DEATH IS DEAD! LOVE HAS WON! CHRIST HAS CONQUERED!" - Keith Getty, Stuart Townend

The empty cross and empty tomb is where we see the light.

And every sunrise is a reminder of the TRUE LIGHT, the TRUE SOURCE, the TRUE LIFE!

He died and rose again so that we might wake up each morning with HOPE.

He died and rose again so that our broken hearts and shattered dreams, our wrestlings with sin and pride, our grief over losses and failures, our struggles with finances, and time, and relationships, and health would not be what defines and determines all that we are and all that we do.

HIS MERCIES ARE NEW FOR TODAY!

And you can drain them completely dry today, and they will be NEW again tomorrow.

He secured an everlasting supply of mercy for us when He poured out his blood.

And it is the power of His rising that gives us a living and eternal hope.

Each day.
This day.
There is mercy.
There is hope.

Every sunrise, new hope.
Every morning, new mercies.

I hope you'll listen to this song and that hope in our merciful Savior will be rekindled.

Your Mercies are New (Audrey Assad)
